Fundraising

Raising funds to enhance the learning and school experience for all pupils is a key aim of Buckstone Primary School Parent Council - see our Funded page for examples of what’s been achieved. The majority of funds are raised directly from the families in our school community, with grateful thanks for this support. We would also like to thank the organisations and businesses who support us with grants, goods and services. The Fundraising team leads on organising fundraising activities, helped by other parent volunteers.  These are activities that are fun for the pupils to be involved in. Each school year this usually includes Winter and Summer school fairs and raffles, two pupil discos and sales of Winter Celebration cards with pupil artwork.

Further details of fundraising events will be published in the school newsletter. You can also found out more information by emailing fundraisingbuckstone@gmail.com

Playground Committee

At Buckstone Primary School, our woodland-facing playground is an amazing space, and part of what makes our school special.  Our parent Playground Committee exists to support the school in helping to make the playground a safe, well-maintained, educational and fun space for pupils and a welcoming environment for visitors. Committee activities include sessions to carry out basic weeding, planting and gardening to supplement the maintenance work carried out by the Council, as well as enhancing the learning potential of the outdoor spaces. You can volunteer or contact the Playground Committee by emailing playgroundbuckstone@gmail.com

Pre-loved School Uniform

Parent Council volunteers collect donations of pre-loved school uniform in good condition, and re-distribute them to parents in response to individual requests made by email to Buckstonepsuniform@gmail.com and at uniform sales. This offers a very cost-effective way to kit your child for school. It also raises some funds – donations are welcome, if you are able to do so.

Sports

Parent Council members co-ordinate School Football (P3 and up) and the Buckstone Ski Club.

From our Football Coordinators: “Football is available from P3 supported by volunteer parent coaches from each year group and runs on Saturday mornings.  We currently have 133 kids registered! Initially this consists of training at the Waterboard Field, progressing on to playing in city-wide four-a-side “Fun Fours” and then on to seven-a-side matches depending on age groups.

Fun Fours operates on a city-wide basis at St Augustine’s High School with the coaches having the opportunity to enter Buckstone teams for the season from March of P3 until November of P4. Seven-a-side matches will either be played at home on the Waterboard Field or away at other schools’ locations. The seven-a-side matches start for the boys from March of P4 and for the girls from the start of P4.  The "boys" teams are mixed gender so the girls have a choice all the way through primary school if they want to play with the boys or the girls.  The fixtures are organised by the SFA, we play fellow South Edinburgh teams, there is no "league table", while the games are usually very competitive, the focus is on the experience rather than the score line!

There is a registration process at the start of each school year, to ensure we have up to date information for each child.  There is a modest £30 annual subscription, kids can register at any point during the year”. Email our Football Coordinators, Fiona and Ross, on buckstonefootball@yahoo.com for more details.

From our Skiing Coordinator: “The Buckstone Ski Club is a great opportunity for children, age 6 and up, to start or improve their skiing! We currently have two classes available on a Friday afternoon at Midlothian Sports Centre (Hillend), and each term we are setting the two classes at different ability levels to give everyone an opportunity to learn and progress. It gives the children a chance to do something new, that is a really fun skill. In the last couple of years we have entered a fun schools race the Boyd Anderson in December and this has been a wonderful experience for all involved”.
